On September 26, Penn State World Campus hosted a New York City meet-up at Serendipity Labs. This event was led by Penn State World Campus Director of Student Affairs, Dr. Ashley Adams. Current and prospective students attended and represented a diverse range of academic interests, walks of life, and career paths.

As a member of the inaugural World Campus Student Government Association’s Marketing and Communications Committee, this was a valuable way to connect with the student body and to gain insight on how the WCSGA could communicate effectively with the nearly 20,000 online students. This inaugural governmental body has the unique responsibility of establishing a meaningful voice that can impact current and future World Campus students. For this reason, having the opportunity to speak in person with a diverse and passionate group of World Campus students was invaluable.

Some of the topics discussed between Dr. Adams and students included: effective communications efforts between PSU and the World Campus student body, enhancements for professor/student interactions, development of the new PSU app, and creative avenues that can improve connectivity between students pursuing the same program.

The dialogue I was able to participate in at this meet-up will shape how the Marketing and Communications Committee converse with the student body as we continue to develop and grow. While the diversity of the group in attendance at the NYC World Campus Meet-Up emphasized the accessibility and flexibility of PSU World Campus programs, it also highlighted the importance of connectivity and engagement in the World Campus community.

As the inaugural World Campus Student Government Association continues to establish its voice, we encourage you to share your thoughts, questions, or concerns. You can get involved by emailing psu.wcsga@gmail.com or commenting on this post.
