The Student Affairs and Technology Affairs committees are evaluating ways to add student photos to Penn State’s identification cards.
World Campus students receive their official ID card in the mail during their first semester. Unlike other PSU campus cards, World Campus students do not have their photo on the ID. Students instead have an image of Old Main in its place. If a student wants their photo taken for the ID, they must travel to a physical campus to have the card issued. This is a challenge for World Campus students because many live no where near campus.
Should students be able to submit a photo for their PSU ID card? Have you or someone you know had issues with photo identification being necessary. Please share your stories to help get World Campus student photos on PSU ID cards.
You can get involved by emailing psu.wcsga@gmail.com or by commenting on this post. As the inaugural World Campus Student Government Association continues to establish its voice, we encourage you to share your thoughts, questions, or concerns.
Good Day,
It would be beneficial to have a PSU ID with my picture for several reasons.
1. When visiting an on-campus location, I can wear my ID with a lanyard, so those on campus know I am a World Campus visitor.
2. It will help when a secondary form of ID is required.
3. For locations that offer student discounts, it will ensure that I am the actual person. If someone was to get a hold of my ID today, there is no way to validate if it the right person holding the ID.
Good evening,
Many students are afforded discounts if they can provide a valid school ID; gym memberships, car rentals and food to name a few. Just recently, I had the opportunity to attend a movie at a discounted price, however, my PSU ID was not considered, because it did not have a picture. Other online schools offer a picture ID and make them available to students around the world and I feel Penn State World Campus should be no different. Although it is a small request, it creates a cohesive bond among students from around the world.
Haivng a photo ID does the following:
– Allows me to access campus resources from local campuses in my area, the private schools nearby require a valid photo student ID to be granted guest student privileges when using resources such as the library.
– Most places offering a student discount require it is a photo ID.
– For any circumstance where a student ID may be used it considered more legitimate because it has a photo.
I believe that the whole purpose of having an Identification is to identify the member that owns that ID. I understand that World Campus students are not physically on any of the campuses, but we are still students. We were granted an ID, therefore why not have our picture in it. The photo in the identification card will identify us and could benefit us in certain ways such as free or discounted admissions to libraries/parks, tickets, or even food. An identification with no photo can be considered as not legitimate. Let us make this happen. Thank you.
